Green Garden Town Hall June 26 Meeting Briefs

Grant Deadline Approaches: Green Garden Township must decide on facility plans by the end of 2026 to retain $400,000 in remaining Will County grant funding. The township has already invested $110,000 in engineering costs for town hall renovation.

Permit Status Questioned: Supervisor Dean Christofilos received notification Thursday that the township’s building permit for town hall renovation is in default status. Officials will investigate whether this reflects project delays or permit complications.

Road Widening Timeline: Will County plans to begin widening Manhattan Monee Road within two years, with the project curving around the existing township building rather than requiring its removal.

Capital Funds Available: The township maintains approximately $800,000 in capital reserves that could support new construction projects without requiring tax increases.

Meeting Capacity Issues: Thursday’s special meeting drew 120 residents to Jackson Creek Church, highlighting the current town hall’s inadequacy for large gatherings. Regular monthly meetings typically attract 15-20 participants.

Property Details: The township owns 43 acres on Center Road, including 30 acres designated for park use and additional parcels available for municipal development. The property currently generates $9,000-$10,000 annually through farming leases.

Safety Concerns Raised: Multiple residents cited traffic safety issues with the current town hall location, noting its proximity to the planned road expansion and increased truck traffic.

Community Growth: The Peotone Blue Demons youth sports program has grown to 68 participants this year, reflecting broader demographic changes in the township as new subdivisions develop.
