Klawitter’s 15 Strikeouts Power Peotone Past Streator 4-3

The Peotone varsity softball team secured a tight 4-3 conference victory over Streator on Tuesday afternoon, relying on a dominant 15-strikeout performance from senior pitcher S. Klawitter and a crucial second-inning rally to overcome a quiet day at the plate.

Despite managing just two hits in the entire contest, Peotone made them count when it mattered most. Following a scoreless first inning, the hosts’ offense erupted for four runs in the bottom of the second. The surge was fueled by excellent plate discipline—Peotone drew seven walks on the afternoon—and a clutch two-RBI single from freshman Mary Klawitter. S. Klawitter also helped her own cause by driving in a run during the frame, giving the hosts a sudden 4-0 advantage.

Streator, backed by a flawless defense that committed zero errors, refused to go quietly. Trailing by four, the visitors began to chip away at the lead by capitalizing on Peotone’s defensive miscues. Streator pushed a pair of unearned runs across the plate in the top of the fourth inning to cut the deficit in half. In the fifth, they scratched across another unearned run, trimming the Peotone lead to a precarious 4-3.

However, despite the three fielding errors behind her, S. Klawitter was an absolute force in the circle. The senior ace went the distance, tossing a complete game and allowing zero earned runs on just five hits. Her overwhelming 15 strikeouts kept the Streator lineup at bay, shutting down their momentum and protecting the narrow one-run lead through the final two frames.

Ava Kosmos recorded the only other hit for Peotone, finishing 1-for-2 with a walk. Streator managed to outhit the hosts 5-2, but they simply could not string together enough offense to conquer Klawitter’s electric arm in the clutch.
