Manteno’s Explosive Offense Overwhelms Peotone in 23-1 Conference Win
The Manteno varsity baseball team unleashed a relentless offensive assault on Monday, routing host Peotone 23-1 in a four-inning conference matchup. Pounding out 19 hits and belting three home runs, Manteno took control from the first pitch and never let up, securing a decisive run-rule victory.
Manteno set an aggressive tone immediately, erupting for seven runs in the top of the first inning. The visitors continued to pour it on in the subsequent frames, adding four runs in the second, another seven in the third, and five in the fourth to build an insurmountable 23-0 advantage.
The heart of Manteno’s lineup proved impossible for Peotone’s pitching staff to navigate. Connor Harrod was a dominant force, finishing a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with a home run, a double, four RBIs, and three runs scored. Franklin Jordan was equally destructive, going 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, and four RBIs. Jake Stevens also got in on the power surge, launching a home run of his own while driving in a pair of runs.
Run production came from every corner of the Manteno roster. Cade Bechard delivered a 2-for-3 performance with a double and four RBIs, crossing the plate three times. Tyler Buehler added three hits, while Eric Eldridge and Logan Bufford each drove in two runs to keep the lineup turning over.
Manteno’s pitching staff was nearly flawless in supporting the massive run total. Harrod earned the win on the mound, tossing two hitless innings while striking out three and issuing just one walk. Gio Arrigo opened the game with a hitless first inning, and Gavin Phelan closed out the game in the fourth, striking out the side.
Peotone struggled defensively, committing three errors that extended innings, and their pitching staff was unable to contain Manteno’s potent bats. Kayden Derkacy, Devin Lynch, and Andrew Barta all faced heavy traffic on the basepaths throughout the afternoon.
Despite the lopsided score, Peotone did find a late highlight in the bottom of the fourth inning. Liam McCleverty broke up the combined no-hitter and the shutout by launching a solo home run. However, it was the lone hit of the day for the hosts as Manteno quickly recorded the final outs to enforce the run rule.
