The Green Garden Township Board held a workshop meeting on August 25, 2025, with the agenda dominated by a detailed presentation of a new draft Land Use Plan. The Plan Commission unveiled the 10-page document, which for the first time includes a map defining future commercial and industrial corridors in an effort to guide development while preserving the township’s rural character. Following a lengthy discussion about procedural next steps and public review, a formal vote on the plan was pushed to at least October. (A full story on the plan and the subsequent debate is available.)

In addition to the land use discussion, the board’s agenda included several other key township matters. Below are briefs on the other topics addressed during the workshop.

Town Hall Updates Discussed: The board reviewed the status of a grant application for the Town Hall and discussed a pre-application permit meeting held with Will County regarding the building. The conversations centered on progress for ongoing town hall improvements and ensuring proper coordination with county officials for future work. The grant is a key part of financing the planned renovations.

Cybersecurity and Accounting Systems Reviewed: Trustees discussed a cybersecurity proposal from a firm identified as RWK and reviewed the township’s accounting system, which utilizes the QuickBooks program. The cybersecurity discussion is part of an ongoing effort to protect the township’s digital infrastructure, while the accounting review focused on ensuring efficient and transparent financial management for township operations and records.

Renovation Invoices and Equipment Needs Addressed: The board addressed new business, including invoices from Tria Architecture & Harbour Contractors for the Town Hall renovation project. An update on the status and needs of township equipment was also on the agenda. These items are part of the routine management of the township’s physical assets and ongoing capital projects, ensuring they remain on schedule and within budget.

IDOT Meeting Announcement: The board was informed of a scheduled meeting with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) at the Will County Fair Grounds. The meeting, set for Tuesday, August 26, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., was noted as an important upcoming event for township officials to attend, likely concerning regional transportation projects or issues affecting local infrastructure.
