Lady Blue Devils Rely on Stifling Defense, Third-Quarter Surge to Hold Off Streator

Spread the love

In a game defined by defensive intensity and grit, the Peotone Lady Blue Devils overcame a challenging shooting night to secure a 36-31 victory over Streator. Despite shooting just 19 percent from the field, Peotone forced 19 turnovers and dominated the third quarter to pull away for the win.

The game began as a defensive struggle, with both offenses finding points hard to come by. Peotone held a slim 9-4 advantage after the first quarter, but Streator responded in the second, trimming the Blue Devils’ lead to 14-10 at halftime.

The momentum shifted decisively coming out of the locker room. The Lady Blue Devils erupted for 17 points in the third quarter—nearly matching their total output for the other three quarters combined—while holding Streator to 11. That offensive spark provided the cushion Peotone needed to withstand a low-scoring fourth quarter and seal the victory.

Senior Madi Schroeder powered the offense, leading the team with 11 points, including three baskets from beyond the arc. Senior Peyton Bisping added seven points, while freshman Payton Pape contributed six points to the effort.

While the offense found its rhythm in spurts, the defense and rebounding carried the night. Junior Callie Weiss was a force in the paint and on the perimeter. Despite not scoring, Weiss dominated the glass with a game-high 12 rebounds—more than half the team’s total—and anchored the defense with four steals and two assists.

Freshman Payton Pape was equally disruptive on the defensive end, recording a team-high six steals. As a unit, Peotone tallied 19 steals, creating extra opportunities that proved vital in a close contest.
