Watseka Tops Peotone 54-35 Despite Balanced Scoring Effort

The Peotone Blue Devils fell to Watseka 54-35 in a non-conference matchup that saw the home team struggle to find an offensive rhythm. Despite a balanced scoring sheet that saw three different Blue Devils tie for the team lead in points, shooting woes and turnovers ultimately proved too difficult to overcome against a steady Watseka squad.

Peotone shot 28 percent from the field (9-of-32) and struggled to protect the ball, committing 20 turnovers in the contest. While the defensive effort forced Watseka to work for their points, the Blue Devils could not convert enough opportunities on the other end to close the gap.

Senior Addison Brandau, junior Payton Schnelle, and freshman Payton Pape led the Blue Devils offensively, each contributing six points. Brandau was efficient in her minutes, shooting 67 percent from the field and converting both of her free-throw attempts. Schnelle provided a spark on the glass, pulling down a team-high four rebounds to go with her six points. Pape, representing the Class of 2028, connected on one of the team’s two three-pointers and added three rebounds.

Senior Peyton Bisping added five points, including a three-pointer, while senior Madi Schroeder chipped in two points and dished out three assists to lead the team in playmaking. The Blue Devils battled on the boards, securing 22 total rebounds, but the turnover margin allowed Watseka to control the pace of the game.
