Suffocating defense and a steady offensive attack helped the Peotone Blue Devils cruise to a 45-31 victory over Hoopeston.

Peotone controlled the game from start to finish, winning or tying every quarter. The Blue Devils’ defensive pressure was the story of the night, forcing Hoopeston into 31 turnovers. The active hands of the Peotone defense racked up 17 steals, disrupting the Cornjerkers’ offense before they could settle in.

Freshman Payton Pape led the offense with 12 points on 5-of-12 shooting, adding four rebounds and four steals. Senior Addison Brandau provided perimeter support, knocking down two three-pointers en route to eight points.

The Blue Devils received contributions from up and down the roster. Freshman G. Pagliarulo and Junior Callie Weiss each scored six points, with Weiss adding a team-high six rebounds and three steals. Seniors Peyton Bisping and Madi Schroeder each added five points, with Bisping chipping in three assists.

Kayla Crull led Hoopeston with 10 points and seven rebounds, but the constant pressure from Peotone prevented any significant rally.
