Peotone Defense Smothers Momence in 43-7 Victory
PEOTONE — Fueled by a suffocating defensive effort that produced 28 steals, the Peotone Blue Devils dominated from the opening tip on [Day of Week], cruising to a 43-7 victory over Momence.
The tone was set immediately in the first quarter. Peotone’s press and active hands kept Momence off the scoreboard entirely, while the Blue Devils’ offense poured in 17 points to build a commanding lead. The defensive pressure continued into the second quarter, where Peotone allowed just three points while adding 13 of their own, taking a 30-3 advantage into halftime.
Senior Peyton Bisping led the charge on both ends of the floor. She finished with a game-high 11 points and was a force on the glass with a team-high six rebounds. Defensively, Bisping recorded five steals, helping to disrupt the Momence offense all night.
She was joined in the defensive frenzy by juniors Olivia Moe and Callie Weiss, who also tallied five steals each. The extra possessions allowed Peotone to overcome a modest shooting night (27 percent from the field) by maximizing their volume of shots.
Moe contributed seven points to the offensive total, hitting 3-of-6 from the free-throw line. Senior Madi Schroeder and senior Addison Brandau added six points apiece, with Schroeder also knocking down a 3-pointer and grabbing two rebounds.
The Blue Devils’ depth was on display as they rotated players freely in the second half. Junior K. Bettenhausen made the most of her minutes, sinking a 3-pointer for her three points. Freshman Payton Pape added four points and four steals, continuing the team’s defensive intensity even with the game well in hand.
Peotone’s defense held Momence to single digits for the game, giving up just four points in the entire second half.
The Blue Devils (25-26) will look to carry this defensive momentum into their next contest.
