PEOTONE — In a gritty, defensive battle on January 8, the Peotone Blue Devils relied on a fast start and tenacious rebounding to hold off the Herscher Tigers, securing a narrow 28-25 victory at home.

Points were at a premium throughout the contest, but Peotone established a critical edge in the opening quarter. The Blue Devils’ offense found its rhythm early, outscoring Herscher 10-4 in the first eight minutes. That six-point cushion ultimately proved to be the difference in the game, as the two teams played nearly even basketball for the remaining three periods.

Senior Peyton Bisping led the offensive charge for Peotone, finishing as the lone player in double digits with 10 points. She also contributed on the perimeter, hitting one of the team’s three-pointers.

While Bisping paced the scoring, freshman Payton Pape delivered an impressive all-around performance. Pape tallied 8 points while anchoring the defense with a game-high 5 steals and 2 blocked shots.
