Will County Board Public Health & Safety Committee Meeting | January 7, 2026

Overall Meeting Summary
The Will County Board Public Health and Safety Committee met on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, covering a range of issues from animal control to public health crises. Chair Daniel Butler took a firm stance on securing intergovernmental agreements for animal services for the villages of Crete and Monee, refusing to remove the item from the agenda until resolved. The committee also heard a presentation on a “Good Food For All” initiative aimed at mapping local agricultural assets to improve food security.

Reports from Sunny Hill Nursing Home and the Health Department dominated the informational session. Sunny Hill administration debated the viability of double-occupancy rooms with the board, ultimately defending the private-room model as essential for resident dignity and marketability. The Health Department reported a surge in winter illnesses and ongoing facility repairs.

News Briefs

Monee Health Branch Usage Doubles
During the Health Department report, Executive Director Elizabeth Bilotta highlighted significant growth at the Eastern Branch Office in Monee. The number of clients accessing services at this location has doubled over the last year. This increase was attributed to expanded outreach efforts, including visits to senior centers in the eastern part of the county and regular inclusion in the Monee newsletter.

Fresh Food Delivery Announced
At the conclusion of the meeting, Chair Daniel Butler announced an upcoming fresh food delivery event in Crete. The event is being organized by the County Executive’s office. While the specific date was not immediately available during the meeting, board members were encouraged to sign up to assist with the distribution.

Operation Green Light for Veterans
Sunny Hill Nursing Home participated in “Operation Green Light” in November to support veterans. As part of the initiative, the facility placed signs outside the doors of every resident veteran to acknowledge their service. The facility also hosted a Veterans Day ceremony on November 10, honoring the men and women residing at the home who served in the armed forces.
