Article Summary: The Will County Public Works and Transportation Committee on Tuesday advanced a nearly $1.6 million contract to “D” Construction for a complete bridge replacement over Forked Creek.

Scheer Road Bridge Key Points:

  • The $1,596,116.16 contract was awarded to Coal City-based “D” Construction, Inc.

  • The project involves the removal of the existing bridge and construction of a new single-span concrete beam bridge.

  • The work on Scheer Road over Forked Creek is located in Green Garden Township (County Board Districts 2 and 3).

  • Construction will require a full roadway closure from April through September 2026.

The Will County Public Works and Transportation Committee on Tuesday, March 3, unanimously confirmed the award of a massive infrastructure contract to replace the aging Scheer Road bridge in Green Garden Township.

The $1,596,116.16 contract was awarded to “D” Construction, Inc., out of Coal City, which submitted the lowest qualified bid during the February 18 letting. The project will be funded through a combination of the Road District’s allotment of Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) funds and County Bridge Tax funds.

The comprehensive project (Section 21-07104-02-BR) will take place on Scheer Road over Forked Creek, impacting County Board Districts 2 and 3.

According to the project summary provided in the agenda packet, the scope of work consists of the complete removal of the existing bridge structure. In its place, crews will construct a new single-span concrete beam bridge. The project also entails installing new full-depth hot-mix asphalt pavement approaching the bridge, reconstructing the aggregate approach chip and seal north of the bridge, and adding new aggregate shoulders, guardrails, and riprap.

The road will be completely closed during the construction period. Work is estimated to begin in April 2026, with an estimated completion date of September 25, 2026.

The committee passed the resolution confirming the award without opposition.
