Illinois Quick Hits: Report shows governor, comptroller differ on tax credit scholarships
(The Center Square) – Gov. J.B. Pritzker has indicated that he might not support a federal tax credit scholarship program that could benefit public, private and homeschool families in Illinois.
The Chicago Tribune reports the governor sent a text to Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza last month after she wrote a Tribune opinion piece urging the state to join the federal program.
In the text, the governor warned Mendoza that the tax incentives could support schools that “teach values that are racist or antisemitic or Anti-American.”
STABBINGS REPORTED ON CHICAGO TRANSIT SYSTEM
Two men were listed in fair condition after they were stabbed while riding a Chicago Transit Authority train early Thursday.
CWB Chicago reports that police responded to the CTA Red Line station at 47th Street around 1:26 a.m.
The incident follows at least four other stabbings on the CTA train system over the last two weeks.
AG DEPARTMENT RELAUNCHES I-COVER
The Illinois Department of Agriculture says it is is relaunching the Infield Conservation for Operationalizing Vital Ecosystem Resilience program to promote the early establishment of cover crops using new techniques.
IDOA paused I-COVER last summer, claiming uncertainty over the $7 million federal grant to launch the program.
