Green Garden Township News Briefs – March 2025

Township Property Values Continue Rising: Assessor Bushong reported Green Garden Township’s equalized assessed value (EAV) continues to grow rapidly, increasing by $2.5 million in just the first two months of 2025. This follows $28 million growth in 2024 from a 2023 base of $239 million. Despite having fewer than 5,000 residents, the township has “the highest equalized assessed values per parcel than other townships of similar size.”

New Public Comment Policy Introduced: Supervisor Murday introduced a new public comment policy prepared by Clerk Kraft that the board will consider adopting at the April meeting. No details of the proposed policy changes were specified in the minutes.

Code Enforcement Issues Reported: Trustee Dietz reported ongoing issues with five semi trucks (cab portions only) parked in a driveway on Ethan Court. According to Dietz, “code enforcement came out and found no trucks so closed the case, trucks then were back” prompting him to request the case be reopened.

Culvert Construction Awaits IDOT Response: A culvert being constructed on Route 45 just north of Sunrise sewer and water is under review. Trustee Dietz reported county officials “could not do anything” about concerns, and they are “waiting to hear back from IDOT.”

School Board Candidate Announces Forum: Ashley Stachniak introduced herself as a school board candidate and invited residents to a candidate forum at the American Legion hosted by The Vedette on Tuesday, March 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. The event will feature a Q&A session with all candidates.

Township Budgets Under Development: Trustee Wagner reported he is working on township budgets. No timeline or specific budget details were provided.

Resident Thanks Outgoing Board: Bev Christensen used the public comment period to thank “the present board for their time, service, dedication” and expressed hope that “the new board coming in has no problems.”

Annual Town Meeting Agenda Approved: The board unanimously approved the Annual Town Meeting agenda, which includes a newly added resolution opposing township consolidation. The board agreed to have the township attorney present at the meeting to provide guidance on questions about whether citizen-requested agenda items would be binding.

Next Meeting Scheduled: The next Green Garden Township Board meeting will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025, at 7:00 p.m.
