Peotone Board Celebrates Student Achievements in Academics and Athletics
The Peotone School Board celebrated a wide range of student accomplishments, from academic honors to major athletic milestones.
The “Good News” portion of the meeting highlighted several students for their character and performance. Peotone High School senior Aiden Siegel was honored as the February Student of the Month for being “a true champion of others” and consistently supporting his classmates.
The board also formally recognized four students who were inducted into the Kankakee Area Career Center’s National Technical Honor Society: Madison Gename and Nicole Stout for cosmetology, and Paige Veen and Julia Verble for the CNA program.
In athletics, two high school basketball players were celebrated for reaching the 1,000-career-point milestone. Seniors Brandon Weiss and Ruben Velasco III both received resolutions from the board for their outstanding achievements on the court.
At the junior high level, sixth-grader Jacob Rodriguez was named a February Student of the Month for his outstanding behavior and work ethic. The entire eighth-grade girls’ basketball team was also recognized for competing in the Class 3A IESA State Basketball Tournament in December.
Administrators also shared news of student success from across the district. High School Principal Angela Patrick announced that a student-led Polar Plunge event has raised over $20,000 for Special Olympics, far exceeding its initial $3,000 goal. Principals also praised the music department for “outstanding” spring band and choir concerts and highlighted successful school events like Pi Day celebrations and a “Building Bright Futures” night at Peotone Elementary.
