Article Summary: The Peotone Board of Education has appointed Brian Cann, a veteran educator with over two decades of experience in the district, as the new Director of Instructional Technology. Cann previously served as an instructional coach and teacher within the district.

New Technology Director Key Points:

  • The board approved the appointment of Brian Cann to the newly created Director of Instructional Technology position.

  • Cann has worked in the district for 21 years in various roles, including as an instructional technology coach during the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • The board also approved the job description for the role, which includes the possibility of serving as a substitute building administrator.

The Peotone Board of Education on Monday, October 20, 2025, unanimously approved the appointment of long-time district employee Brian Cann as the new Director of Instructional Technology.

Superintendent Brandon Owens introduced Cann, highlighting his extensive experience and multiple roles within the district over 21 years. Cann has served as a teacher, the district’s instructional technology coach during the pandemic, and most recently as the K-5 instructional coach.

“He’s held a lot of hats and a lot of roles within the district, and we feel that his knowledge and experiences will be instrumental to step into the role,” Owens said. “We feel like he’s a great fit for the department.”

Cann, whose wife also teaches in the district, expressed his excitement for the new role. “This is my 21st year, I think, in the district,” he said. “Very humbled at the opportunity to be able to do that. I know over the last 21 years, I’ve had a lot of your kids… it’s really exciting to be here.”

Cann will begin transitioning into his new position immediately.

Prior to the appointment, the board approved the new job description after a brief discussion. Board member Ashley Stachniak questioned a provision allowing the director to serve as a substitute building administrator, seeking to confirm that any individual filling that substitute role would hold the proper state administrative license. The board approved the description with the understanding that the proper certification would be required for such duties.
