Peotone Survives Defensive Struggle, Pulls Away Late to Beat Beecher
PEOTONE — In a game characterized by intense defense and hard-to-find baskets, the Peotone Blue Devils relied on a fourth-quarter offensive surge to defeat Beecher 33-27 on [Day of Week].
For the first three quarters, points were at a premium. The two teams were deadlocked at 10-10 after the first quarter, and the pace slowed significantly in the second, with Beecher taking a slim 14-13 lead into halftime.
The defensive intensity peaked in the third quarter, where Peotone’s defense pitched a shutout, holding Beecher to zero points. While the Blue Devils managed just three points of their own in the frame, it was enough to reclaim the lead at 16-14 heading into the final period.
After managing just 16 points through 24 minutes, the Peotone offense erupted in the fourth quarter. The Blue Devils scored 17 points in the final frame—more than their total from the previous three quarters combined—to secure the victory.
Freshman standout Payton Pape led the way for Peotone with a game-high 14 points. Pape did damage from all levels, connecting on two 3-pointers and hitting 6-of-9 from the free-throw line in the closing moments. She was also a menace defensively, recording five steals.
Senior Peyton Bisping provided the necessary veteran scoring punch, finishing with 12 points. Bisping was efficient from long range, hitting two 3-pointers to help buoy an offense that struggled inside the arc. As a team, Peotone shot 50 percent (4-of-8) from deep compared to just 14 percent on 2-point attempts.
Senior Addison Brandau controlled the glass with a team-high seven rebounds while adding four points and three steals. Junior Payton Schnelle anchored the paint defense, blocking three shots and pulling down five rebounds.
The Blue Devils’ defense forced 20 turnovers in the win, with junior Olivia Moe matching Pape with five steals. Junior Callie Weiss added six rebounds and two steals to the defensive effort.
Peotone (25-26) will look to carry the momentum from their strong fourth-quarter finish into their next game.
